Bachelor’s Survival Guide: 5 dishes that get ready in less than 15 minutes

Tired of Chinese take-outs and left over pizza? Want to eat something hot & fresh but don’t have the time. You can make an omelet and a decent cup of tea but you’re no gourmet chef. The smell of aaloo paranthas make you miss home more than ever and maa ke haath ka khaana is a distant memory now. If you’re looking for a quick fix to your midnight hunger pangs or a Sunday brunch without burning a hole in your pocket then try these simple but delicious dishes.

5 Dishes Get ready with in 15 Minutes like

  1. Microwave Mug Cake

(Cooking time:  5 minutes)

Ingredients:

  • 2 tbsp drinking chocolate
  • 4 tbsp all purpose flour
  • 4 tbsp castor sugar
  • 3 tbsp butter/refined oil
  • 3 tbsp full fat milk
  • 1 egg

Take a large microwave safe mug and add sugar, flour, drinking chocolate and a pinch of baking powder to it. Mix all the ingredients together and slowly add melted butter or refined oil. Now add the beaten whole egg into the mix and stir well. Add milk slowly while stirring the contents in the mug. Now add raisins & almonds to garnish it.

Place the mug in the microwave and set it on high convection mode. Now let it bake for 4 to 5 minutes. Your chocolate mug cake is ready to eat.

  1. Garlic Bread

(Cooking time: 10 minutes)

Ingredients

  • 5-6 slices of brown bread
  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Few green olives
  • 1 tsp of crushed garlic
  • 1tsp oregano
  • Salt to taste

In a glass bowl mix olive oil, salt, oregano & red chilli flakes (optional). Spread this mix evenly on the bread slices and sprinkle mozzarella cheese generously on each slice. Now add sliced green olives and bake for 8-10 minutes at 180 degrees in a convection oven. If you don’t have an oven you can first toast the slices on nonstick pan. Then sprinkle the cheese and place them in a microwave for 1 minute.

  1. Mac & Cheese

(Cooking time 5 minutes)

  • ½ cup macaroni
  • 3/4 cup cold water
  • 4-5 tbps milk
  • 1tsp butter
  • Grated cheddar cheese
  • Salt & pepper

Take a big glass or ceramic microwave safe bowl. Add the macaroni, salt, butter & water. Now put it in the microwave for 2 minutes. Take it out, stir and put it back for another 2 minutes till the water absorbs completely. Now add cheddar and microwave for another 1 minute. Your steaming bowl of Mac & Cheese is ready. Enjoy!

  1. Stir fried Mushrooms

(Cooking time 5-10 minutes)

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup button mushrooms
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 tsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 cup diced vegetables like carrots, onions, bell peppers
  • 1 tsp ginger & garlic paste
  • 2 finely chopped green chilies
  • 1 tsp corn flour mixed in water
  • Sugar & Salt to taste
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Add 1 tbsp of cooking oil in a non stick pan. Once the oil heats up add sliced mushrooms & other vegetables and stir fry for a minute. Now sprinkle little sugar and fry for another minute. Add chilies, ginger garlic paste, water, soy sauce and corn flour. Let the gravy thicken. Keep stirring continuously for 3-4 minutes to avoid lumps. Lastly add little bit of salt as the soy sauce already contains salt. Garnish with sesame seeds and enjoy with bread/boiled rice/noodles.

  1. Sausage Tacos

(Cooking time 10-15 minutes)

  • 4-5 sausages, thawed
  • 1 cup salsa sauce
  • 4 tortillas
  • 1 cup diced onions, bell peppers, corn, tomatoes, lettuce, olives & avocado
  • Grated cheddar cheese

Heat some oil in a pan and add onions and bell peppers. Once the onions have turned golden and peppers turn soft add the thawed and diced sausages. Cook on medium flame for 5 minutes. Now add the salsa sauce and cook for another 2-3 minutes. Remove the mixture from heat. Now add it to a bowl and mix with rest of the toppings. Heat the tortillas according to instructions on the pack. Fill the tortillas with sausage filling and add grated cheese on top. Your sausage tacos are ready señor.
