A Trip to Mini Tibet in Delhi

A visit to Majnu ka Tilla near North Delhi campus is an adventure in itself. Finding my way through serpentine lanes, hopscotch-ing on potholes and ditches, asking for directions and passing by a Tibetan monastery I found myself in a place strewn with some of the best restaurants that serve my kind of food- easy on the palette and wallet, both.

No wonder this place is a hit with students. You can relish a meal for two for less than 500 bucks! As if that wasn’t enough, your taste buds will tingle at the sight of authentic Himalayan food without even leaving Delhi.

My favorite places to visit here are the Rigo Restaurant (https://goo.gl/UvBKIv)and Tee Dee Restaurant (https://goo.gl/wQPaAe). When in Rigo, be sure to try chicken clay pot with garlic wine and Dasran (caramelized fried noodles topped with vanilla ice cream).

There’s also a lane of cafes in a dimly-lit alley in a basement. It’s a little hard to locate for the first timers but definitely worth a visit. The AMA café here serves desserts that are out of this world. Their apple pie is a true delight for any foodie. If you are watching your waistline I recommend you stay away from this place. It takes a person with a very strong will to not get tempted by their mouthwatering muffins and pies.

Things to shop – No visit is complete without a little bit of shopping. When in this place look for original egg noodles, bamboo dim sum steamers and handmade colorful chopsticks.

Best way to travel – Vishwavidyalaya and Vidhan Sabha Metro Stations on yellow line would be the nearest to Majnu Ka Tilla.

Places to Visit – Rigo, Tee Dee and Dolma House for some delicious Tibetan food and AMA cafe (http://goo.gl/8wfnmY) for those with a sweet tooth.
